Trees of Waller County

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The deciduous holly.

If you go along the highways of Waller county or quite frankly in any part of the southeastern United States, you might see this, stark against the winter sky:

It’s not really a tree… well okay, let’s call it a small tree with lots of trunks.

It’s beautiful.

It’s a holly that loses its leave and if its the female plant of the species, what’s left behind for most of the winter is these beautiful, bright red berries.

You could call this Ilex deciua or Meadow Holly or Possumhaw or Swamp Holly.

What ever you decide to call it, I think its spectacular.
