A Prayer For Owen Meany

Reading Time: < 1 minute

This months’ book choices will be all about the pageant. As in Christmas pageant, and if you want to celebrate Christmas and ponder a bit on the meaning of things, away from wrapping paper and traffic lights, get you an eggnog or a beer or a scotch, pull up into a comfy chair, and open up the world of John Irving’s Owen Meany.

In this week’s edition of highlighting great literary versions of oddly curious and memorable Christmas pageants, Owen, the tiny dwarf main character, with weirdly luminous skin and an ethereally nasal voice (represented in the novel in all-capital letters), spends time worth your perusal of the novel, portraying the Baby Jesus in his local Episcopalian pageant.

If nothing else, locate this passage and enjoy.
